Caregiving Tips: Healthy Brain

Caregiving Tips: Healthy Brain

Whether you are a caregiver in the family or from a healthcare service provider in Hawaii, you are exposed to stress and burnout. Caregiving could greatly affect your health and wellbeing. The following stress management ideas could help you cope as a caregiver. Let us examine some of the controllable health factors that could influence your brain health.

  • Stress.

When you are very busy during the day, your body produces hormones called cortisol. Too much cortisol in the body could interfere with the brain’s ability to take in new information. Another interference is hearing and vision problems so make sure it’s regularly checked.

  • Mood.

Your mood could greatly affect your focus and attention. When you’re anxious or depressed, you become distracted by your own feelings and thoughts. Furthermore, chronic depression is linked to the development of dementia.

  • Sleep.

Sleep lets your brain store and restore memories. Lack of sleep affects your mood and ability to focus during the day. Apnea, a sleep disorder, can also have negative effects on brain health. If you have trouble sleeping, you can ask for respite care from home care services.

  • Medical Issues.

Several acute medical problems can affect your cognitive functioning, but these are treatable. See your physician regularly to monitor your physical health. Also, if you are taking medications, ask your doctor about its effect on your brain.

  • Stay Engaged.

Stay occupied, both physically and socially. Studies show that physical activities, a healthy diet, and social engagements can improve cognitive functioning and decrease the risk of dementia.

Taking care of your brain health allows you to do more in caregiving. Helping Hands Hale has well-trained caregivers who are equipped to provide the best home care service provider in Hawaii

The state of Hawaii has determined that most caregivers are considered employees and in order to LEGALLY hire and pay your OWN caregiver, you must have a company established with State and Federal tax ID numbers. In addition to their hourly pay you must also pay for Workers Compensation Insurance, Temporary Disability Insurance, General Liability Insurance, and if the caregiver works more than 20 hours per week you must also provide medical insurance for each caregiver. Therefore; choosing an established agency such as Helping Hands Hale is an affordable and easy solution that will save you time, money, and relief from being in violation of State and Federal Labor Laws.
